Climate change may lead to sleep loss
Researchers have found that the chance of poorer sleep quality increases with temperature increases. After studying 10 billion sleep observations the study found that the probability of sleeping less than seven hours increases gradually up to 10°C and when it rises above this temperature the chance of reduced sleep rises rapidly. They also found that sleep quantity was generally poorer in warmer climates compared to cooler ones. Overall researchers found that climate change is anticipated to eat away at our sleep and eventually widen environmental inequities.
Recalled sleep aid devices linked to 124 deaths
Popular CPAP, BiPAP and ventilator manufacturer, Phillips Respironics, is now facing a Department of Justice subpoena after the FDA recently received reports of over 100 deaths to their products. This recall has been labelled as a severe Class One designation, due to the noise-abatement foam inside their devices breaking down leading to the foam being inhaled.
Phillips Respironics has made a statement saying they intend to replace every one of the estimated 15 million devices that have been impacted worldwide.

Side-sleepers may be giving themselves an extra layer of protection from neurodegenerative diseases like ALS. Researchers looking into ALS and the glymphatic system, the brain’s waste-clearance system, by studying mice have found that, along with exercise and getting better sleep in general, side sleeping provides the most efficient glymphatic clearance to help manage symptoms.
Treating sleep apnea may improve memory in dementia patients

When studying those who had been treated for their sleep apnea with a CPAP machine against those who hadn’t, researchers found those who had been treated experienced memory and thinking improvements. However, these improvements have only been studied over the short term.
